75% of my initial conversations with new coaching clients begin the same way:
Hey Dan! My dream is to _____________, but isn't that kind of stupid? Is it ridiculous to give up (the steady paycheck at the job I hate/the relationship which doesn't serve me/the friendships that don't support me/the outdated belief system which I've used to protect myself)? Am I crazy to chase this dream which isn't even realistic?
Here's what I know to be true:
Your dreams aren't stupid.
Your dreams aren't unrealistic.
Your dreams aren't even "dreams."
Your dreams are the highest expression of who you are.
Your dream is who you are before you believed other people's needs mattered more than your own. Your dream is who you are before you started living everyone else's vision for your life except yours. Your dream is who you are before you valued surviving over thriving. Your dream is who you are before you made a belief you're "not enough."
Notice I didn't say who you "were." Your dreams are not in the past tense. The best version of yourself is not lost forever. It's right here, waiting to emerge so you can give your gifts to the world and make an impact.
Your dream isn't unrealistic. What's unrealistic is your belief you shouldn't have to change in order to achieve your dream. If you are not willing to challenge and change the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors which created your "stuckness," you will continue to generate the same outcomes.
You can't share your story and inspire other people if you believe you are unworthy of being seen and heard.
You won't find a deeply passionate, fulfilling romantic relationship if you remain scared to communicate your needs to your partner.
You won't lose weight by continuing to eat in the way that made you overweight to begin with.
You won't change careers or start a new business if you need certainty there won't be a setback along the way.
Achieving your goals requires you to overcome the internal blocks that have kept you from reaching your dreams in the first place. Instead of continuing to wait for the "perfect" moment when there are no obstacles standing in your way, you must accept the obstacles ARE the path.
Your vision board is beautiful, but it's not enough. Your visualization exercises are a good first step, but they are useless without taking daily, inspired action equal to your vision. You must grow into the kind of person it takes to reach your goal.
Are you scared to give up the steady paycheck at your current job? You must become a person who can face uncertainty and have faith the Universe is supporting you.
Do you tell yourself there is no time to work towards your dream? You must become the kind of person who sets boundaries, learns to say no, and makes yourself a priority.
Are you a person who believes asking for help makes you "weak?" You must learn to put your pride aside, embrace vulnerability, and allow yourself to receive.
Easier said than done? Of course it is. Which is why 99.9% of the world continues to settle for less than an extraordinary life. You don't have to continue to be one of them any longer. Let me show you how!
