There are no words at a time like this.
But there sure are an overwhelming amount of emotions. It would have been bad enough to lose Christina Grimmie on Friday night, but to follow it up with the worst mass shooting in the history of the United States 24 hours later in the same city seems unfathomable. I hold every person affected by this tragedy in my heart this morning as I write this and we begin to figure out where we go from here.
I seen some comments from the spiritual community suggesting that we can pray and/or meditate the pain away after a horrific act of terror. I respectfully disagree. The first step in finding healing after any tragedy is to give yourself permission to feel all of the feelings that inevitably come up.
This includes anger. You are entitled to feel anger, rage, and yes, even hatred. None of this makes you a less evolved person, it simply makes you human.
However, at some point we have to make a choice to not dwell in these negative emotions. I'm not suggesting that the pain of the Orlando massacre will be released in a day, a week, or even a month, But at some point, a tragedy like this will require us to take action. It is simply impossible for us to serve to world from a heart-centered place when our reactions and solutions come from a place of rage.
Responding with violence and aggression will simply lead to more violence. It debases us and holds us back from being a positive force of light in the world. It is also a disservice to the memory of the people who were taken from us last weekend. Did they die so that others would be killed in another act of hatred? Or was the deeper meaning of their death to inspire the world to take action that could stop acts like this from occurring?
If we will allow ourselves to grieve until the negative, low-vibrational energy moves through us, we are then able to create grounded action steps that contribute to the solution. We can operate from a centered place.
If you are reading this blog, I believe that you are a person who wants to be a force of light on this planet. You feel deeply connected to a sense of purpose in your life. You might not even have the clarity on what that purpose is yet so it's easy to fall prey to thinking of "I'm just one person. What can I do?"
Sometimes, the most effective thing that you can do is raise your vibration and bring your positive energy into your home, your family, or your office. Now, more than ever, the world needs you to shine brightly. Your positive energy gives others the permission to act in kind. Your energy and presence have the ability to bring others out of their chaotic , destructive, behavior. Your energy has the ability to make a difference in your community and create a ripple effect into the world.
We live in a culture that feeds on fear. The news headlines are not just consumed with the Orlando killings, but the Stanford rape case, the Zika virus, and an election cycle where candidates spend more time scaring you than talking about real solutions to our problems.
It is up to us to rise above this fear. No Presidential candidate will change your local community. Making America great again starts with you and I.
The preamble of our constitution says "We the People" are the ones who "promote tranquility, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty." You can make a choice to embody love, compassion, and freedom right now.
I will leave you today with one of my favorite quotes from Aung San Suu Kyi.
"When you feel helpless, help someone."
For me, the best way that I know how to help is through serving others. With that, I am offering a no-pitch, no BS, 20-minute laser coaching session to any person who emails me at email@example.com. This is simply an opportunity to be coached on any challenge that is keeping you from being free in your life. There will be no sales pitch at the end. This is simply my way of putting love into the world in the best way that I know how.
Whatever you are feeling today, I honor you and send you love for the week ahead.
With much love,
PS- As always, I ask that you share the love today and forward this blog to anyone in your life who would benefit from it.
